Food Safety

This summer, contaminated spinach caused an outbreak of E. Coli bacteria that killed three people. We need to be more vigilant about the safety of our food supply, not less. The food industry, however, is working to take away food safety protections net by taking away the power of states and local governments to protect the food supply.

Legislation to do just that passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year, and a similar bill in the U.S. Senate is scheduled for a committee hearing soon.

Please sign our “Protect Our Food Safety Net” petition.

Petition text:
“To protect the public health we must protect the safety and integrity of our food supply. Please oppose the so-called National Uniformity for Food Act, which would shred our food safety net by stripping local governments of the power to ensure food safety.”
