With antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" becoming a growing public health crisis, Domino's Pizza is choosing to fight, rather than address, a call to action.
Ohio PIRG and our national network are supporting a shareholder resolution, filed by Green Century Capital Management in November, asking Domino's to protect public health by reducing the use of medically important antibiotics used in the products of the beef and pork it sources.
But, instead of responsibly addressing the issue, Domino's is challenging the proposal with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, arguing that Green Century is attempting to "micromanage" its operations.
“For a company that prides itself on fast delivery, Domino’s certainly is slow to address this critical public health issue,” said Green Century Director of Communications Kyle W. Kempf.
By contrast, in December, industry giant McDonald's committed to addressing antibiotic overuse in its beef and pork supply. We think Domino's should follow Mickey D's lead.
